The Lady Ravens kept the good times rollin’ last night with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Concordia Stingers.

With the win, the Ravens extend their winning streak to a season-high 3 games, can clinch a playoff spot with an Ottawa U loss to Montreal tonight, and can climb into the much desired third playoff seed if they beat Ottawa U on Sunday and Concordia loses to McGill tonight.

Concordia led for most of the game after a goal by Maggie MacNeil in they dying seconds of the first gave the Stingers a 1-0 lead.

But less than a minute into the 3rd period, Kristen MacDonald evened the score, and Victoria Powers played excellent once again to guide the Ravens to a much-needed point.

But one point wasn’t good enough for the Ravens. With 3rd place in sight, Carleton brought the Stingers into a shootout for the fourth time in five games between these teams.

Melanie McKnight was the shootout hero for the Ravens once again. She has scored the shootout winner in all three wins against Concordia.

The Ravens head back to Ottawa today and prepare for a big, huge, gigantic, enormous, astronomical finale at home against the Gee Gees. If you’re in town for reading week, check it out at 2pm at the Ice House Sunday afternoon.

Best case scenario: Concordia loses to McGill today and Carleton beats the Gee Gees tomorrow to set up a first round playoff matchup against University of Montreal, who the Ravens beat last Sunday. The winner of that matchup earns an automatic berth in the Nationals this March in Waterloo!

Worst case scenario: Ottawa U and Concordia both win today and the Ravens would need at least a point out of Sunday’s season finale vs the Gee Gees to clinch the fourth and final playoff spot, which would set up a matchup against McGill in the first round.

Even worse scenario: The Gee Gees beat the Carabins today and the Ravens tomorrow in regulation to knock the Ravens out of the playoffs. But with the Ravens now playing their best hockey of the season, I don’t expect that to happen and would probably lock myself in my room and cry into my pillow for the rest of reading week if it did.
