The Ravens dropped their fourth straight game Saturday night in a 3-0 loss to the mighty McGill Martlets at the Ice House.

Carleton played as well as they could against a powerhouse Martlets squad that won their 95th straight divisional game and welcomed back Olympian Charline Labonte between the pipes.

Two of the Martlets top players, Ann-Sophie Bettez and Carly Hill, did not play on Saturday because they are representing Canada at the Universiade in Turkey along with Ravens assistant coach Mandi Duhamel.

One thing the Ravens could be proud of is that the Martlets did not completely dominate this game.

Carleton played at the Martlets pace and had several first period chances. The Ravens also had great goaltending from Victoria Powers, which kept them in the game. Penalty trouble allowed the Martlets to score two with the man advantage in the first:

Ravens top forward Kelsey Vander Veen was knocked out of the game in the second during a big hit.

When the Ravens were able to move the puck and create scoring chances, Labonte responded with some nice saves and shut the door in her first game of 2011 due to an injury.

But overall, the Ravens played well, Powers turned aside 32 of 35 shots and Carleton kept the game within reach against a team that is capable of scoring a half dozen goals on any given night.

Here’s what Powers had to say after the game:

Mitch spoke with Martlets Head Coach Peter Smith at the first intermission:

Martlets Goalie Charline Labonte also spoke with RHL Saturday night:

Next week, the ladies hit the road, or rather, la rue dans Quebec with a rematch against McGill on Saturday and a big must win game against Concordia on Sunday.
